MRI Scans/Orthopeadic Referrals/Neurosurgeons

MRI scans are sometimes  required in the diagnosis of some injuries. It is not always possible for a physiotherapist to accurately diagnosis an injury and occasionally we may recommend that you need an MRI. The MRI scans uses magnetic and radio waves, meaning that there is no exposure to X-rays or any other damaging forms of radiation.

Using an MRI scanner, it is possible to make pictures of almost all the tissue in the body.  After having a MRI a consultant radiologist always compiles a report outlining the type and severity of the problem and gives a more accurate diagnosis and prognosis. The physiotherapist can then liaise with the radiologist who will suggest possible treatment options.

It should be made clear by us that private scans must be paid for by the patient. However, due to our large client base, we are able offer a substantial reduction in the price of such scans to patients referred by us.

If a MRI scan is required a physiotherapist will always  recommend that you initially consult your GP to discuss the  possibility/likelihood of an MRI referral through the NHS. If  you prefer a private self-funded scan this can be arranged direct by the physiotherapist We can usually keep waiting to a maximum of seven days and the results will be returned to you within 48hours. We will then invite you back to our clinic to discuss the results and together with your physiotherapist a decision made of what needs to happen next to achieve a speedy recovery.
